The rules

How it plays

  1. Black and White alternate placing stones on empty intersections; Black moves first.
  2. Connected groups share liberties and are captured when their last liberty is removed.
  3. Suicide is forbidden unless the move captures and restores liberties.
  4. Ko forbids immediately recreating the previous board position.
  5. Two consecutive passes end the game; territory, prisoners and White's komi determine the score.
Availability note. Expected January 2027 is an approximate target. Each wave arrives once the previous one is stable.

Ways to play

Variants, not separate apps.

One purchase contains the supported rules family. Each option below changes the table while keeping the engine's legal-move checks in charge.

Quick 9×9

A compact board and the strongest dedicated local advisor.

  • 9×9 intersections.
  • The bundled KataGo Core ML policy ranks legal moves.

Medium 13×13

More strategic space without the length of a full board.

  • 13×13 intersections.
  • The engine enforces the same capture, ko and scoring rules.

Full 19×19

The complete traditional board.

  • 19×19 intersections.
  • Configurable komi compensates White for Black's first move.

Make it yours. Start from any of these, adjust the settings the game allows, and save it as your own template. When online play opens you can publish a custom table for others to join.
